Indie Designer Feature of the Month: Kahri, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

To start off our Indie Girl Designer Feature of the Month, DFA speaks to KahriAnne of Kahri. Hailing from smalltown Iowa, KahriAnne is quickly growing in the New York indie fashion scene. Kahri takes a step away from the same ol' same ol' you see at the malls and brings a fresh new perspective to fashion.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE

My style is hip, funky and rocker chic.

INSPIRATION

I'm inspired mostly from music, especially rock'n'roll. I'm especially into the 80's New Wave mixed in with my other favorite decade, the 1940's.

WHO DO YOU ASPIRE TO BE, DESIGNER WISE? WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR INFLUENCES

I don't want to be 'the next' anybody, I want to be the 'first me'. Although, I do like the attitude of designers Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui. I also like the design and styling of Sass and Bide.

DESIGN PROCESS

My design process is whatever happens happens. I don't draw every little thing I make beforehand. I usually start cutting and sewing and see where it takes me. Although, I always have a theme for each collection, so I use that as my inspiration and direction as I design.

MUST HAVE ITEM BY KREATIONS BY KAHRI

If I have to choose just one item that every girl should have from my new collection, it would be the Boombox Hoody because it's so versatile. You can dress it down with a tank underneath and some jeans, or dress it up with the Ruffle Mic Knickers, fishnets and heels.
