Women in Uniform: Plus-Size Military Couture…
Today I want to share Plus-Size military couture with all of my favorite double-digit divas.
I heart military wear; there is something so sexy, yet anti-establishment and edgy about it… I find that any olive green garment with an army patch is perfectly haute. Military inspired frocks are all the rage and no matter what size you are, everyone looks good in olive green.
I want to give a salute to Kiyonna.com & Torrid.com for offering Plus-Size Military Couture to all the dazzling, Double-Digit Divas out there!
My Favs...
Kiyonna’s Military Wrap Dress:
Torrid's Olive Ribbed Bottom Army Jacket:
Men may be hot in uniform, but women are dead sexy!
P.S. Stay away from the icky camouflage; the pattern is less than slimming and you could be mistaken for a hunter!
P.P.S. Get FREE SHIPPING at Kiyonna.com thru Nov 30th, 2006! The lovely women at Kiyonna.com contacted us @ Couture In The City, and they are offering all of our Couture readers FREE SHIPPING for all orders over $75.00! Just type in the code, "FREE COUTURE"
80's Style, here to stay? Couture in the City Fashion Blog
Gwyneth Paltrow
When Gwyneth stepped out this weekend in this YSL belted stunner, it was affirmed to me that 80's style was here to stay. The newest era of this trend is mirrored in exctly what she's wearing...think "Dynasty" with less hairspray and more toned down jewelry.
Then, you have 80's fashion offenders like the notorious Mischa B.
Mischa Barton
I have to admit...the 80's style tulip skirt dress from Bebe is cute...I even like her mall bangs. However, the footless tights push it over the edge, and I don't even want to talk about the shoes. Mischa almost gets the new 80's look right. However, if you want to do the 80's style toned down prom dress look, take some cues from Angie Harmon...
Angie Harmon
The style of dress? A flattering and unique look from Christian Dior. The color? Subdued. The accessories, hair and shoes? Minimal. THIS is how you do 80's flashback with a contemporary flair. Love it.
Do it up LeFashionista indie designer style with one of our fave looks, the Satin Bubble Dress from Prospect 44.
Satin Bubble Dress $150.00
So what are your thoughts? Is the new 80's look fab, or is it time to move on? Did Mischa get it right? Will the trend for footless tights never end? All this and more, on the next edition of Couture in the City.

Release Your Inner (Vixen) Bunny?
I hate Halloween. Why? Maybe my core group of friends embraced the ‘costume change’ at our theme parties and it’s lost the novelty. Maybe mixed childhood memories of fluffy bunny costumes that took weeks to sew, but only minutes to be teased at…or the year mom put cocoa paste on her face and went as Aunt Jemima (so politically incorrect) and escorted me trick-or-treating. Maybe it’s that I got sick of going as a witch four trillion times. read more

Double-Digit Divas: Plus-Size Fashion Around The Web
What Couture In The City needs is some posts about Plus-Size fashion!
A friend of mine works retail at a Mall (she hates it) and when we get together she tells me all of her nightmares and struggles as a sales-girl. She told me (get ready for this) that any size in the double-digits, (size 10 and up) is considered "Plus-Size."
WHAT? I had never heard that before; I was under the assumption that plus-size started at 14W and up... What are your thoughts?
There are many online Plus-Size sites with fabulously fashionable garb; I am a firm believer that at any size, any woman can look attractive, confident and stylish...
So, travel with me around the web and take a gander at these Plus & Posh sites:
Torrid.com - Torrid is a sexy fashion brand empowering plus-size young women to feel beautiful and feminine! Torrid has fashionable dresses, outer-wear and more! AND they actually use Plus-Size models... Sizes 12-26!
B&Lu.com - B&Lu was started by 2 sisters who wanted to offer the world a fashion resource for plus-size young women. Their styles are HAUTE and mainstream, while being edgy and individualistic. The models they use are sultry and sexy! Sizes 14 to 30!
OldNavy.com - Old Navy.com has 'Women's Plus' fashions from sizes 16-26. From career wear, to night out on the town wear, this is a fabulous resource! Oh... and their price-points ROCK!

Blame the album, not the shoes …
Jessica has really gone down hill in my opinion, her new album, “A Public Affair” is a piece of filler trash; her outfits as of late are atrocious and, well, you know the rest... BUT I saw this girl at the mall wearing the most adorable shoes ever and I asked her what brand they were and she said, “Jessica Simpson.”
WHAT? Doth my ears deceive me? Jessica Simpson put this adorable foot candy out?
Although you won’t be dancing to her new tunes in them, Jessica Simpson has put out some fabulous shoes that are well priced, good quality and hot, hot, hot.

Halloween Style
Sick and tired of kiddie costumes for Halloween? Don’t want to be stuck dressed as a witch again? We don’t blame you…here at LeFashionista, we celebrate fashion 365 days a year…and especially on Halloween. Check out these “haute” costume ideas for some great creepy couture:
Marie Antoinette: Thanks to Kiki Dunst and Sofia Coppola, this costume is going to be a big hit this year! Though heads should roll for creating such a boring movie (sorry, bad pun), the costumes and cinemetography were gorgeous, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t steal this style. If you can’t find a costume, then get a giant curly powdered wig, lace fan, corset and other French Revolution-era costume pieces. If your significant other is tagging along, have him dress as Louis XVI for an added touch. Bonus Points for creating a costume where it looks like you are carrying your own head. read more

Omiru Poll Results: Layered Necklaces are In
We asked: Are Layered Necklaces In or Out?
Pictured: Lee Angel Oval Link Necklace | $425 at Scoop NYC.
You said: Layered Necklaces are still In. 58% are still all over this trend, while 14% think they’re Out. The remaining 28% think this jewelry trend is On the Way Out.
Omiru’s take: We love the drama that Layered Necklaces create for an outfit. With the ability to take a simple outfit from vanilla to cookies & cream, Layered Necklaces are an essential in this era of mannered, ladylike dressing to give outfits a bit more flavor. In order to take full advantage of this jewelry trend, we recommend pairing necklaces with compatible colors but wildly different textures.

There is nothing "Juicy" about this handbag...
You know that Juicy is getting lazy when they start using their cutting floor scraps to make a handbag. Just because you have an ugly bag, some plaid fabric and a sewing machine, does not mean that an atrocity like this should be placed on the market. For shame, Juicy.
Looking at this train-wreck of a bag, I started singing Fergie's London Bridge song and now I'm just irritated because I cannot get that blasted tune out of my head.
Dear Juicy,
Please stop trying to be Burberry and get back to the drawing board.

Designer Tip of the Day: Winter Boots for Women
Here are some of the hottest trends to look for:
Winter Boots with Fluffy Collars: Ankle, mid-calf and knee-high boots can all be found with fluffy collars this season. From faux fur to shearling, and lots of fluff to bits of fluff, it's definitely the season for luxurious trim.
Slouch Boots: Slouchy shafts can be found on both dress and casual styles this season. Especially hot boots that combine the loose uppers with belts and straps.
Belted Winter Boots: And speaking of belts and straps, they're hot! Look for them on everything from urban styles with flat heels, to high heel stunners.
Lace-Up Boots: With styles ranging from those inspired by the Victorian era to edgy urban casuals, there's no shortage of lace-up boots this season. In addition to making the boot easier to get on and off, laces add a bit of pop to even the simplest of winter boots.
Futuristic Fashion: Balenciaga's 2007 Collection
Balenciaga has transformed their runway models into Cyber-Goddesses with their new futuristic, Sci-Fi reminiscent collection. These hot, she-droids rock the runway with sultry safety goggles, elongated and sleek black jackets, dresses jigsawed from patent leather; & space crew shirts with wide shoulders and high white collars.
Looking at the collection, my head swarms with images from futuristic flicks such as Terminator, The Matrix, Mad Max, Tron and even Star Wars.
For the most part, I love this collection; it is sleek, chic and fabulously futuristic. Nicolas Ghesquiere is a God of a designer and I applaud him for bringing his vision to light.
Where I draw the line is the C-3PO leggings; some things are best left to the movies.

Fashion Mishap of the Week: Zooey Deschanel
Shiver Me Timbers...
by Jillian
ARRR Maties, I'm Zooey, the worst-dressed pirate on the seven seas of sinful outfits...
Okay, I know that Pirates 2 was pretty popular and everything, but WTF is up with this ensemble? AND what's with the bow in the hair? I got it, she woke up and said, "I want to look like a pirate today, but I am NOT wearing the bandana, I hate bandanas!"
Zooey Deschanel is usually so fashion forward, she was my idol; I loved her and then she turns around and struts a nightmare like this... she's 20 seconds away from being busted for shop-lifting. It's a sad world.
All this outfit needs is a plastic sword, & an eye-patch.

Ooh-la-Lindsay-Lohan!
NOTE: Image from Getty Images
I saw a couple clips of the young, trendsetting celeb crowd on TV a couple days ago, so I thought I'd hunt down some pictures. Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan were especially looking great, but I just have a picture of Lindsay to share today. I picked her outfit b/c Paris's was pretty but kinda boring. Nicole's was super cool but kind of a weird combination - it worked, but I could never pull it off. So, here's Lindsay Lohan looking fab as always:
I love the whole outfit she's wearing - the tights, the (looks like) ankle booties, and especially the dress - it's gorgeous!
