I don't claim to be an expert and I certainly don't have the word, "Couture" after my name. I'm not a designer of clothing and accessories, but I am a consumer (a savvy one at that) and that makes me somewhat of an authority. There are many great designers out there and I am happy to purchase their creations.
What irks me is this: When you see a handbag or a "designer item" that looks like a 3rd grade science project gone horribly wrong and the price tag says $200.00 or shockingly even more! You know the stuff I'm talking about ladies, the garbage you find that has threads sticking out of the seams or worse, strings of dried glue gun glue popping out all over the place.
I'm not trying to squash creative license, nor hurt feelings here, but according to some of today's standards, my Grandmother could be labeled as a hip Indie Designer. Hell, I could just slap "Granny Couture" on her scarves and make a small fortune. I love your scarves, Gran!
Now, I am not going to point fingers or name names here, but seriously, what are these "Designers" thinking? Sometimes I say to myself, "You know, I could do that!" - but the reality of it is, I couldn't. There is a reason I'm a consumer and not a creator. Now these so-called Couturiers could corner me and say, "Well if you you're so good, let me see you do it...," but as I mentioned above, I'm not a designer and do not claim to be.
All I'm saying is this Ladies:
Anyone can go to their local craft and fabric stores and create something, but that doesn't mean they should.
