The Mini Debate, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Cameron Diaz (source)

This weekend, a newly blonde again Cameron Diaz stepped out in a super cute Kelly Bergin minidress over skinny Corpus jeans. Now, normally, this look would irk me, and I would scold Cameron for hiding her obviously killer legs when she could be showing them off.

However, I think that for once, I actually like the dress over jeans combo in this case. Why does it work? Well, for one, Cam's mini is just that, mini, and doesn't have a whole lot of volume or extra fabric. It's a cute, solid colored streamlined minidress that isn't flowy and has just enough detail at the neckline to keep you interested, plus it is paired with an equally skinny pair of jeans. If this dress was any longer or fuller, it may not work as well. Paired with minimal accessories and super cute animal print open toed shoes, I'd say we have a winner!

Want to try out the minidress over jeans look for yourself? Look for mini styles, (this means well above the knee, and fitting snugly against the bod) in solid colors for the best results, and pair with skinny jeans and a heel.

Well Vested: Mandy Moore, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Mandy Moore (source)

Menswear isn't just for men...vests are super hot on us girls too, and Mandy Moore knows just how to properly rock one. By using a cropped vest in a corset-like manner, she turns a pretty, flowy top (that may have otherwise made her look pregs) into a totally chic and casual look.

Now I'm going to be honest...vests just don't work for me. I loved them circa 1992...I had quite a collection, most of which had tapestry embellishments. Some, even had jewels. Perhaps this is why I have an aversion to them now, on me at least. My best friend can add one to a t-shirt and a pair of jeans and look super cute, but I'm just not ready for that kind of flash back right now.

Anyhow, if you are the kind of fashionista who can take a cropped vest and take a boring ensemble from blah to "OMG, that's cute" then check out this one from Kahri: guaranteed to make everyone ask where you got it from with envy.

MENS: What To Wear: Waistcoat and Vest, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

I had the privilege of getting an invite to the Topman Fashion show at the Singapore Fashion Festival in late april and immediately fell in love with their clothing. Oh wait, let me rephrase my sentence again.I was lucky enough that the ticket for the Topman/Topshop Unique Fashion show was not sold out and got the 'bird's eye view' from the 8th row. That's better.

Anyways, the trend of putting on a waist coat or vest might probably be coming to an end soon but, it is never too late to tag along with the trend, especially when its affordable. For students like me,we cant afford to invest huge sum of money on an expensive waistcoat or vest as it might just be another fad that will fade as time progresses. Thus, getting an inexpensive one from Topman is a great alternative for a designer's clothing.

Here are my top 3 pick:

It's no secret that most celebs have to work long and hard for their killer bods, and the fruits of their labor is on full display every summer. It's officially bathing suit season and as usual, everything goes from nautical stripes to colorful combinations and of course, the classic black bikini.

One of the best things about a swimsuit is that, if properly cared for, it can last for years and continue to be worn well beyond its first swimsuit season. Sure, you can go to a variety of stores and pick up a low quality swimsuit for under $50, but it may not have the kind of longevity you are looking for.

Geftaki Swimsuits are the perfect answer for anyone wanting to marry fashion with function in their swim wear. Totally unique, Geftaki uses hand embroidery, Swarovski crystals and a variety of other high quality embellishments to create to most artful and jaw dropping designs ever to grace the shore.
